Legal Insurance Should Be Part Of Your Comprehensive Protection Management Strategy.

So how about it... do you have legal insurance?

Perhaps the better question would be...

Can you really afford to be without legal insurance?

In today's world... any comprehensive financial plan or strategy should consider... the need for legal protection.

"More than half of all households have a legal situation right now."

—Legal Needs and Civil Justice Survey, published by the American Bar Association

As is so often the case... the need... is derived from and is a measure of... exposure to risk.

Exposure to risk... in regard to your financial security means... exposure to potential un-anticipated monetary costs, expenses, or losses.

While any un-anticipated expenses or losses can pose a threat to your financial security and peace of mind.

It is particularly important that...

Once you have a customized financial plan or strategy in place... that you protect the integrity of your plan... from the numerous risks that we are all continually exposed to... as we simply... live life.

Life insurance protects your family from... loss of income... in the event of your (or your spouse's) death.

And whereas...

An emergency fund protects you from... unexpected expenses such as... job loss, automobile and equipment breakdowns, etc..

The role of legal insurance is to provide you with... legal protection for everyday living.

Legal insurance can provide affordable access to professional legal counsel... not only for traditional legal problems... but for everyday events where legal review should be routine... but rarely is.

First and foremost...

A legal protection plan empowers you to know your legal rights.

And it does so at a cost that virtually anyone can afford.

A legal protection plan allows you to have an attorney... just a phone call away... when legal challenges arise.

But far too often... without legal insurance... people don't even seek legal council.

  • Some may feel intimidated by lawyers.
  • Or perhaps... they don't know who to call.
  • Still others... are afraid that it would cost too much.

And so... the problem either gets ignored or they try to handle it on their own.

"You are more than twice as likely to be in court than you are to be hospitalized."

—National Center for State Courts, 2002/American Hospital Association, 2002

There are so many issues that challenge us in the daily routine of life.

For example... have you ever...

  • Been overcharged for a repair?
  • Tried to return a defective product?
  • Lost a security deposit?
  • Been Audited?
  • Signed a contract?
  • Purchased a home?
  • Prepared a will?
  • Received a traffic ticket?

Often times just a phone call or a letter from your attorney... or merely even mentioning that you will be contacting "your attorney"... can make all the difference... in either making something happen... or stopping something from happening.

Here are some common features often seen in legal insurance protection plans...

  • Legal Consultation
  • Document Review
  • Will Benefits
  • Directive to Physician/Living Will
  • Durable Power of Attorney
  • Probate Benefits
  • Motor Vehicle Related Benefits
  • Trial Defense Benefits
  • IRS Audit Legal Services
  • Contingency Fee Discounts
  • Discounts for all other Legal Work

Let's consider a couple of examples.

This first example is both very common and extremely important.

Ironically, it is an issue that is both simple and inexpensive to solve.

Most people do not have a will.

Have you ever thought about what would happen to your kids... if you and your spouse both died together in an accident?

This is... just one important reason... to have a will.

Through a will... your wishes for your children can be made known to the court... if you were gone.

There are many other important reason to have a will.

But... if you have kids... a will is especially important.

Most legal insurance plans will include a will either for free... as a feature of the plan... or at least at a discounted cost.

This second example... though less common... is one that most of us are exposed to on a daily basis... and could definitely be both life changing and financially disastrous.

What if you were involved in an auto accident in which someone died?

You would most likely be facing vehicular manslaughter charges.

Can you imagine?

Would your liability insurance protect you in a criminal matter such as this?

I am no lawyer... but I am not certain that they would defend you in regard to the criminal aspect of such an event.

But suppose they would.

I wonder... to what degree and how aggressively... your liability insurance attorney would defend you?

Would his primarily objective be to look after your best interest?

Or would it be... to look after the best interest of the insurance company... whom he represents?

Would you be comfortable with this sort of defense arrangement... if you were facing the possibility of going to prison?

What potential risk does this sort of situation pose to your financial security?

By way of a mere accident... anyone who drives... could instantly face... not just prison time but financial devastation... due to the massive costs associated with having to defend yourself in court.

A legal insurance plan can make defending yourself in court much more affordable.

The following is... just a partial list... of other topics that could require access to legal council.

  • Adoption
  • Auto Accident
  • Bankruptcy
  • Business Related Issues
  • Child Custody
  • Child Support
  • Class Action
  • Consultation
  • Consumer Issues
  • Consumer Law
  • Contract Dispute
  • Contracts

In conclusion... with all things considered... all I can say is that...

It is smart to have legal insurance.

Not only can it save you and your family... time, money, and stress... it might even save your financial security.

Legal insurance can help... protect your family's financial future and quality of life.
